Common man slowly elbowing its way into the mainstream cinema

While reviewing the film MUMBAI MERI JAAN, a reviewer had remarked that the character played by Irfaan Khan did not have a role in the film. It has indeed become a bane that a common man, if he is given a role to play, though having a meaty characterization, does not get the prominence. The common man of MUMBAI MERI JAAN has the aspirations to visit a Mall, and when abused or denied entry, goes to the extent of creating a havoc for the novae riche, but it is the same common man who rises to the occasion and helps when the situation demands.

Refreshingly enough, with new wave of directors and the film makers, the common man is getting into prominence once again, and WEDNESDAY was a stark reminder of the same, though it was scoffed at by critics, forgetting the fact that the tools of technology are so advanced that an individual with an average intelligence can force the system to start performing.

This new wave of cinema that is making its presence felt like a wave of the sea, is now experiencing high tide in the form of DASVIDANIYA, and as a perfect symbolism the re-inventor of the common on the firmament of Hindi films, Vinay Pathak is producing it. It seems that the era of Raj Kapoor where the common man and his issues got addressed in one form or the other is slowly but surely gaining foothold once again and it would be giving a new meaning to the Hindi cinema.

The dream of a common man is to lead a decent life, and to be able to fulfill his commitments and obligations in his life, but in most of the cases he is not able to do so. DASVIDANIYA tries to implore the common man to get out of the rat race, pause and enjoy the life in the present. The utopia of a glorious future is what implores most of us to slog around, and we forget to do a reality check around our surroundings. With DASVIDANIYA may be we would once again try to pause and enjoy the magic of the life as it unwinds in a spool gradually. Let the come back of common man begin with gusto.
