She disappeared from the Bollywood world after only two films. That had left her fans and even the industrywallas bemused. After giving two stunning performances in HAZAARON KHWAISHEIN AISI and KAL: YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW, actress Chitrangada Singh almost bid adieu to the film world. Now Chitrangada is all set to make a comeback with Onir's SORRY BHAI! and even after a sabbatical she looks equally beautiful and ready to surprise her fans with powerful performances. The actress speaks to our correspondent on her comeback, her future projects and life after a three year sabbatical.
Welcome back. Thank you, so much. I really need all these... all your wishes
Great. Then tell me what happened that you had to take this decision to quit films when everything was going fine? Actually... (pauses)...there were so many things. So many... I couldn't figure out what to do and what not to do. I know as far as my acting performances were going there was no reason to stop acting but probably I wasn't ready at that point of time to take all that pressure, more so because I don't come from a family where anyone is remotely related to films. And I wasn't even sure whether film was where I wanted to stay.
So now all those confusions are gone? Oh yes. Now I am ready and I think I can't be anywhere else but here. This is something I want to do.
Don't you think that you also lost on a lot of good opportunities due to that decision? Maybe. But at the same time I would like to say that at that time I really didn't think that this would happen...and that would happen and I would lose out. It was completely my decision and at that point of time. I have absolutely no regrets. Why should I?
Apparently there such reports that your husband Jyoti Randhawa (golfer) didn't want you to continue and that induced you to decide on quitting... Yes, I know but that isn't right or how would I have been back doing films. He is absolutely fine with what I am doing and all my decisions. He is rather very supportive and I am happy about everything that is happening in my life right now.
Now you sound confident. So what was that which all of a sudden got back the confidence in you after three years? Actually you know...there wasn't any particular thing that I can cite as a reason behind this decision to come back. It's like starting all over again. Maybe I am confident now. In all these three years I had watched so many films and every time I would feel that how different I could have done that role and so one. Then this thought came to my mind that probably I should start acting once again and...see (laughs) I am here again.
So how did SORRY BHAI happen? That's again a long story. And this time I was surprised. I had changed my mobile number and lost all my contacts because I never thought that I would be back here again. So nobody could actually trace me nor could I make an effort to approach directors. But as it happens (Laughs out loud this time)... Onir somehow managed to get my number and sent the script to me. And there was no reason of saying no. I was looking for a good role to start off as a fresh and I got it.
And what is that good role? I play a simple girl of today and that's what is the real me. So the rest should be left till the film releases. It's a romantic comedy.
Okay... but you have a couple of more films? Yes I hope this continues because I have no intentions of going back again.
Interestingly you will be seen in Sudhir Mishra's AUR DEVDAS...the same director who introduced you to this film world. Yes...yes. I can only be grateful and thankful to him. And I am happy that he likes me so much that he even thought of casting me in AUR DEVDAS. That's again an interesting film with me playing Chandramukhi. It's a modern take on 'Devdas'. And of course it's a great role.
So once again, congrats on this comeback. Thanks you so much... I am really happy with the way people missed me so much. I never knew I had so many fans wanting to see me.
